UTILIZATION OF SILICA FUMES (THE BY-PRODUCT FROM THE FERRO-SILICON INDUSTRY) IN BUILDING MATERIALS
Tarek Amin Osman;
Abstract
As
recently,
condensed silica fume has been, until
considered as a by-product without any
commercial value, or even as a waste product with a high disposal cost. The dust removal system of silicon and silicon alloy plants has not always been designed to separately collect different types of condensed silica fumes produced at the same time by the different
furnaces.
Silica fume is mostly composed of various silica particles, and its specific gravity is expected to be about 2.20, the most commonly accepted value for the specific gravity of various silica. However, different impurities present in the glassy phase can alter this value.
