Abstract
BATORM is the first toroidal plasma machine designed and operated in Egypt. BATORM is low cost machine which can be operated up to tokamak regime. It has been considered as baby tokamak, which started operation at the same time 1998 of Todoroki machine in Japan. The word BATORM is an abbreviation to "BAby TORidal Masoud". The system provides enough infonnation on toroidal discharge physics of tokamak which includes small impurities.
The BATORM consists mainly of vacuum chamber vacuum system, Toroidal, Ohmic & Vertical coils and electrical circuit. The electrical circuit consists mainly of capacitor bank including the power supply and safety system. There are four electrical circuits. The working voltage is nearly 1.5 kVand the working vacuum pressure is
9 X 10-2 mbar.
In the first test of the system, the discharge energy is
45 J and the discharge time is 0.84 msec. The peak discharge current is 0.49 kA and the peak of plasma current is 3.39 kA. The plasma electron temperature is 2.25 eV while the ion density is 2.1x1013 cm-3 and the plasma kinetic pressure is 4.725x10 13 eV!cm3
