Abstract

Bony defects caused by periodontitis are often treat :d by regenerative therapy using autografts and/or allografts. Alloplasts, such as hydroxyapatite or ceramics, are also used as osteoconductive material> that serve as a scaffold for new bony ingrowth.

Alloplasts composed of tricalcium phosphate TCP) have been extensively used for bone grafting procedures and have been found to be compatible with host tissues and elicits no adverse reactio 1s.

It has been shown in a study that a graft materia. based on HA and B-TCP ceramics, with loose packing, acted not only as < steoconductive but in addition stimulated osteogenesis. Accordingly, the tim of the present study was to compare the clinical and radiographic e fectiveness of two different compaction methods of beta-tricalcium pho ;phate alloplast in treating intrabony osseous defects in moderate aJ .d severe chronic periodontitis patients.
