BIOCHEMICAL STUDIES ON THE MULTIPLE USE OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATIONS AND CHEMICAL MUTAGENS ON SOME MICROBIAL CELLS

AZIZA RIZK AHMED EL-GAMAL;

Abstract

Over 500 distinct antimicrobial substances have been identified as secondary metabolites of Streptomyces species (Santana et al., 1994; Tanaka et al., 1996). More than 50 Streptomyces antibiotics have found practical applications in human (Doit et al., 1997) and veterinary medicine (Graybill et a!., 1997). The search for new antibiotics essentially needs to continue since many infectious diseases are still inadequately controlled by the existing antibiotics (Zeller et al., 1997).
