Radwa Hasan Elbana;

Abstract

Evidence is given that gender-related differences in skin physiological properties exist. The aim of this study was to evaluate the difference between male and female sebum production by measuring sebum production over ½ hour, 1 hour and 11/2 hours in both males and females.
The study was conducted on 200 age matched volunteers; 100 males and 100 females. Measurement of sebum production from the forehead was done using sebometer. The measurements were taken after ½ hour, 1 hour and 11/2 hours for each subject then the mean sebum product was calculated.
The mean sebum production at 0.5 hour among males was 135.94±58.33, 1 hour was 163.71±58.94, at 1.5 hour was 192.26±62.61 and the mean total production was 163.99±58.60. Meanwhile, the mean sebum production at 0.5 hour among females was 84.96±45.59, at 1 hour was 106.69±51.14, at 1.5 hour was 128.99±57.07 and the mean total production was 106.95±49.72.
Comparison between male and female’s sebum production showed that sebum production was significantly
