PARAVERTEBRAL BLOCK FOR DAY SURGERY
Wael Mohammed Mokhtar Sary;
Abstract
The field of day surgery has undergone a tremendous metamorphosis. It has progressed from the practice of performing few simple procedures without anesthesia in a physician's office, to the total complex care of broad spectrum surgical patients undergoing thousands of different procedures under all types of anesthesia.
Benefits achieved by shift to day surgery are that it increases the availability of hospital beds for those patients who truly need them. The rapid growth of ambulatory anesthesia is due to the convenience to the patient as regard the decrease in the time during which the patient is away from home, work and family. This
1s of particular importance to the pediatric population. It was found that the day surgery significantly minimizes stress and emotional disturbances of patients and also reduces the risk of infection especially m immuno- suppressed and pediatric patients.
