Abstract


The diagnosis of end stage renal disease (ESRD) is a very traumatic experience for individuals. ESRD implies physical, psychological, social and financial weakness, as it disrupts all aspects of individuals' life and
their families.


Fatigue, general weakness and pam are considered the greatest physical symptoms reported by patients that interfere with their life style and affect their quality of life. The current study was conducted to assess informational needs of patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis treatment. Data was collected from I 00 male and female adult with ESRD undergoing hemodialysis with age range between 18 -60 years that were fully conscious. One tool was utilized and developed by investigator that consists of five parts:
a) Socio-demographic data b) Past medical history c) Physical needs d) Psychological & social needs and e) Financial needs. The data collection phase was completed from June 2005 to July 2006 at hemodialysis units at El-Manial- University Hospital.


Each subject was individually met and data was collected using the study tool through structured interview. The study findings revealed that:


- There is no statistically significant difference between subjects' knowledge and certain socio-demographic data such as age, gender
& level of education.
