Effects of Television on Metabolic Rate: Potential Implication for Childhood Obesity
Ghada Mahmoud El-Sheikh;
Abstract
Pediatric obesity is a chronic . and. growmg multifactorial problem.
One such factor that may affect children's obesity is television viewing.
Television viewing and its role in pediatric obesity has begun to receive more attention in the past few years. Although several studies have suggested that television and obesity are related, little is known about the way in which television viewing affects energy balance. Television viewing may be related to dietary intake, physical activity, metabolic rate, or some combination of these.
This study was carried out to test the effect of television viewing on resting energy expenditure in children and to determine whether television viewing affected obese and normal-weight children differentially.
