Abstract

Hysterectomy is the commonest major gynecological operation performed all over the world. One problem still unsolved is the choice of the type of surgical approach to hysterectomy, whether vaginal, abdominal or laparoscopic.

Laparoscopy made an impact on gynecologic surgery by performing the first laparoscopic hysterectomy in 1988 by Reich et al.

The aim of the study is to compare laparoscopic hysterectomy with classical total abdominal hysterectomy.

Thirty patients were enrolled in this study, they were randomly allocated into two groups:
Group A: included fifteen patients who underwent laparoscopic hysterectomy.

Group B: included fifteen patients who underwent"total abdominal hysterectomy.

All patients were subjected to detailed history taking, physical examination

(general and pelvic), laboratory investigations and ultrasound examination.

An informed consent was taken on admission for participation in this study. The two studied groups were compared as regards:
Preoperative data.

Operative findings. Postoperative follow up.
