Abstract


Coronary artery diseases (CAD) are considered the primary killer in older adults in the world today_ Chronic and disabling conditions have profound effects on elderly ability to function in every day life that in turn can affect one's quality of life (QOL).

Many studies indicated that an improved QOL for older patients with CAD would enhance their health status and increase their potential to be contributors to the society .The emphasis should not be on their deficiencies and• weaknesses, but on their knowledge, experience and healthy life styles.

The present tttudy was conducted to identify the Quality of life in elderly patients with coronary artery diseases. The study was carried out in out patient clinics at Alexandria Main University- Hospital and Alexandria Health Insurance Clinic. The subjects consisted of 200 elderly patients with CAD. Patients were selected according to the following criteria aged
60-80 years, of both sex, had coronary artery disease at least one year .The data collection started from June 2001 to October 2001.

The tool of the present study was structured interview sheet consisting of two parts, part1included information about elderly patients sociodernographic data such as: age, sex, level of education, marital status, occupation. Also included items related to diagnostic procedures done.
