CYTOMEGALOVIRUS IN SOME HAEMATROLOGICAL DISORDERS AND HEPATITIS C

Ghada Mostafa El-Barowdy;

Abstract

Hematological abnormalities are common among viral infections. Cytomegalovirus is an ubiquitous DNA virus of human origin that can infect most immunocompetent humans, by the time of adulthood and virtually all immunocompromised patients. A primary infection with CMV occurs in seronegative immunologic "virgin".

In contrast, a secondary infection with the same strain or reinfection with a new strain may occur in seropositive immune persons.

The aim of this study was to determine the frequency ofCMV and its role in some hematological disorders.

The subjects were categorized into the following groups:

1. Control group included sixteen subjects their ages ranged from

20 years to 32 years with mean± SD 27.8 ± 2.8.

2. ITP group included thirteen subjects their ages ranged from 2.5 years to 35 years with mean± SD 15.6 ± 12.8.
3. Hepatitis C positive group associated with thrombocytopenia

included sixteen subjects, their a&es ranged from 20 years to 62 years with mean± SD 43.06 ± 11.4.
4. Aplastic anemic patients included seventeen subjects their ages

ranged from 6 months to 25 years with mean± SD 12.7 ± 9.8.

5. Absolute lymphocytosis patients as regard age with more than

20% atypical lymphocytes included twelve subjects their ages ranged from 5 years to 45 years with mean± SD 14.5 ± 11.6.
