IIMMUNITY TO INFECTIOUS MONONUCLEOSIS IN CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS IN-EGYPT
Gihan Seif ElDin Zakaria;
Abstract
Infectious mononucleosis is a disease of young age caused by Epstein-Barr virus.
The virus affects the oropharynx through salivary exchange.
Most primary infections acquired early in life are asymptomatic. Infectious mononucleosis patient excretes the virus for weeks to months after initial infection.
The peak of infection (primary infection) occurs in the late teens and twenties. Most people over age 40 are considered to have had previous contact with the EBV and are thus immune to infection.
The present study aims to explore the immune status of children in preschool age, adolescents and young adults against Epstein-Barr virus in Egypt.
Using ELISA technique, specific IgG to EBV antibody was taken as an indicator of immunity.
The study was done on healthy individuals of 3 age groups:
Group 1: 30 children whose ages ranged from 3.5 - 6
years old.
