Okab Ghalib Yousef Daraghmeh;

Abstract

Edible plants are important source of useful structures for the development of new chemotherapeutic agents. A wide range of medicinal plant parts are used for extracts as raw drugs and they possess varied medicinal properties. The present work was therefore aimed to investigating the biological activity anticancer of Teucrium polium and Salvia judaica plants used in Traditional Arab Palestinian Herbal Medicine. In the present study methanolic extracts of the Teucriumpolium plants and Salvia judaica and synthetic Rutin were tested for their ability to inhibit the proliferation of Prostate cancer cells (PC3) using the MTT reduction assay. The extract of Teucrium polium and Salvia judaica showed cytotoxicity against Prostate cancer, and this may be attributed to antioxidant Rutin present in the above mentioned plants.
