Life Style of Diabetic Patients Post Amputation

Abstract
An amputation is a devastating event in a person's life, often resulting in profound physical, psychological, social and financial consequences.Aim: This study was aimed to assess lifestyle of diabetic patient post amputation.Design:A descriptive, analytical study was usedSample: was conducted on 100 diabetic patients post amputation duringfirst visit post surgery.Setting: This study was conducted at surgical outpatient clinics (general, plastic and vascular) at AinShamsUniversity SpecializedHospital.Tools:Three tools were used for data collection:First tool:Interviewing questionnaire including the follow parts: A)Socio-demographic characteristics, B) data about the needs and problems of diabetic patient post amputationSecond tool:It deals with medical background data.Third tool:Factors affecting lifestyle for diabetic patients post amputation .Results :The results of this study indicated that, the majority of diabetic patients were males more than half their age ranged from 40- 60 years. The highest level affected on the patients were psychological aspect, and physical is the second factor affected on patients, the last factors were, financial and spiritual problemsand there were highly statistically significant lower limb amputation compared to of the patients with upper limb amputation.Conclusion:The study concluded that, two thirds with ages ranged from 40 to 60 years and more than two thirds of the patients were married and less than half had completed their university education,also in this study found There were highly statical significant for physical problem of the patients with bilateral amputation and highly statistical significant for physical need for the patient with right sided, left sided or bilateral amputation.The highest level affected was psychological aspect, and physical aspect is the second most common affected by amputation .Recommendation:This study recommended comprehensive nursing management protocol focusing on role of community health nurse to deal with diabetic patients post amputation to help such patients through adjustment process. Establishment of rehabilitation program for multidisciplinary team, including social worker, community nurse, psychiatric nurse and physiotherapist to support successful community.
