Abstract


This study was carried out on 24 selected immature cataractous eyes (of 18 patients) were attending the ophthalmic outpatient clinic of Benha University Hospitals in the period from (Februmy 1998 to November 1998).

They were prepared for planned ECCE. The patients were divided into two groups, group A (needle capsulorhexis) and group B (forceps capsulorhexis), both groups were subdivided into A1 and B 1 (without IOLs) and A2 and B2 (with IOLs).

All cases were subjected to carefull history taking and complete ophthalmic examination. Carful recording of operative data, complications and their management that was •performed.

Complications occurred in 14 eyes i.e. in a percentage of

58.3%. Extension of a radial tear 'to the periphery without vitreous loss occurred in (3) cases (12.5%) in groups A 1, B 1 and B2 and while extension of a radial tear had occurred with vitreous loss in 3 cases also (12.5%) in groups A2 , B 1 and B2 .

Nucleus delivary-related complication occurred in (2)

cases (8%) in group A1 (one case) and in group B2 (one case
