In vitro Study of Fracture Toughness of CAD/CAM versus Manually Fabricated Provisional Restoration Materials
Abd El Azeem Mostafa Abd El Azeem;
Abstract
In our study we tested and compared the fracture toughness of 4 provisional resin materials to evaluate the effect of the type of the material and the manufacturing method on the fracture toughness of the provisional resin materials.
We compared two manually fabricated provisional materials (Protemp 4 and Tuff Temp) with two CAD/CAM fabricated provisional materials (VITA CAD Temp and BreCAM.multicom).
The manually fabricated provisional materials specimens were fabricated using a special designed split Teflon mold.
The CAD/CAM fabricated provisional materials specimens were fabricated by milling using Isomet 4000 microsaw Buehler USA.
A notch was milled in the middle of each specimen by Isomet 4000 microsaw Buehler USA then a pre-crack was cut in the end of the notch using a sharp razor.
10 single edge notch beam (SENB) specimens were fabricated for each material and 3 point bending test was applied and the results were measured and analyzed with (ANOVA) test then was followed by Tukey’s post hoc test and The two construction methods were compared using unpaired t test.
In comparing the effect of type of the material, the results showed that some materials were significantly different (Tuff temp) but the others (Protemp 4, Vita CAD Temp, Brecam Multi Com)
