Psychological Abnormalities in Egyptian Children with Chronic Liver Diseases

Abstract


This work was conducted at paediatric Hepatology clinic, Ain- Shams University. It included 30 patients with chronic liver diseases under regular follow up in the clinic. Their ages ranged between 6-12 years with a mean value (9.11±2.40) years. In addition to 10 healthy children with matched age and sex were included as controls.

This study aimed at evaluation of patients with chronic liver disease psychologically in addition to normal children not suffered before from any liver disease with comparison between both to detect any psychological problems.

Apart from proper clinical assessment and routine laboratory investigations; all subjects were evaluated regarding JPQ parameter or Eysneck Personality Questionnaires (EPQ), self concept test, I.Q. and BDl.

This study showed that no difference between patients and normal children regarding antisocial behavior, anxiety, phobia, obsession, extrovert, introvert; impulsivity, depression and mood changes but obedi ::nce score was better in normal children with no difference between male and female cases as well as between younger and older age except depression score.
