Abstract

iabetes mellitus is one of the major health problems and obstacles not only in developing country but also in developed ones. The prevalence of diabetes is increasing worldwide especially among seniors and is expected to rise from 171 million to 366milion in 2030, impaired cognition remains an overlooked complication. Type 2 DM is associated with increased risk for (MCI) and for more faster deterioration and progression to dementia., low insulin level, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome were associated with low acetylcholine level and are considered an attributable cause for cognitive dysfunction in type 2 diabetes.
The link between type 2 DM and different MCI subtypes is the scope of ongoing research.
Some epidemiological studies correlate the link between MCI and diabetes through the same pathological response as AD while other studies contribute this to metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular problem, and infraction.
The objective of this thesis was to detect the relation between MCI and salivary amyloid Aβ42 in elderly patient with type 2 DM.
