ULTRASONOGRAPHY VERSUS COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY IN EVALUATION OF OVARIAN MASSES

lrini Momtaz Youssef;

Abstract

Ultrasonography and computed tomography have a complementary role in the evaluation of ovarian masses.

This study included 30 female patients with ovarian masses, their ages ranged from 13 to 65 years. The fourth decade was the most affected age group among patients with non-neoplastic ovarian masses. The third decade was the mostly affected age group among patients with benign masses, while in malignant masses, the most affected age groups were the fifth and sixth decades.

The commonest clinical presentation was dull aching pain and lower abdominal swelling.

Epithelial tumours represented 50% of patients. Non-neoplastic masses represented 24% of patients.

Germ cell tumours represented 13% of patients. Metastatic (Krukenberg) tumours were found in 10% of patients, while sex cord stromal tumours represented 3% of patients.
