POLYMERIZATION COLORIMETRIC CHANGES OF LIGHT CURED COMPOSITE RESIN

Abstract

Four shades of light-cured composite restorative resin Zl 00 were evaluated for polymerization coloritnetric changes and also for colorimetric changes following U.V. aging for 12 hours.

The samples were classified according to shades, specific light curing cycles (20,40, and 60 sec.) and U.V. aging for 12 hours. The color was assessed through the measurement of diffuse reflectance of the surface of I 00 tested samples of composite resin using the computer color matching system (CCM).

The results were recorded graphically and translated mathematically and then were tabulated and statistically analyzed by multiple analysis of variance ANOVA and corresponding F-test. For further define the significantly ditferent groups, unpaired student 't' test was used.

The results of this investigat ion revealed the following:

1. All evaluated shades of light-cured composite restorative resin Z100 showed significant colorimetric changes during the light cunng process.

2. Changes in L* parameter or lightness during polymerization were significant for all shades and had the greatest influence on the overall polymerization color change.

3. Polymerization colorimetric changes for A2 and C2 shades were greater than that for B2 and D3 shades.
