A Study of the Linguistic Features Correlated with Qur'anic Dialogues with Special Reference to the Politeness Principle

Abstract
The present study attempts to investigate politeness rituals used during interactions with others whether of high or low social distance in carefully selected Qur'anic dialogues in the English translation of the meaning of the Holy Qur'an by Ali (2007) basically using Brown & Levinson's theory of politeness (1987). It also examines how indirect speech acts may prevent speakers from offending their partners and cause a speech act to be more polite and how possible offences produced by communicative actions may be blocked by using politeness techniques. The Holy Qur'an is abundant in numerous dialogues that deal with various human relationships such as a dialogue between a father and his son, a ruler and a ruled, friends, etc. Dialogues from the Qur'anic perspective are considered one of the most important means of interaction between people.
