EFFECT OF BENDING AND SHEAR ON THE TORSIONAL FRP STRENGTHENING EFFICIENCY OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS

Yasser Mohamed Samir;

Abstract

The objective of this research is to experimentally and analytically study the efficiency of different strengthening schemes using FRP to resist torsional moment as well as the effect of percentage of horizontal and vertical steel on the maximum torsional moment resisted by strengthened beams.

Fifteen reinforced concrete fixed-fixed beams each of length equal to 3000 mm and cross section 150mm width and 300mm height were cast .One beam was tested under single concentrated load as a control beam, The rest of the beams were divided into four groups according to the strengthening scheme of the FRP material as well as the percentage of lower horizontal and vertical and middle horizontal steel used.

Cracking and failure loads, deformations and angle of rotation were documented. Finally results and recommendations were established. According to the analysis of the test results and review of literature, some recommendations are given for the analysis of R.C. strengthened using FRP to resist torsion.
