REPRODUCTIVE BIOLOGY OF SOLE A SPP IN LAKE QU ARUN

Magdoleen Mohamed Abd el Maged EI-Husseiny;

Abstract

Solea spp. in Lake Quarun was identified as Solea aegyptiaca, due to the very reduced membrane connecting between the dorsal fin and caudal fin and between the anal fin and caudal fin.

The present study included biometric analysis (morphometric measurements and meristic characters); the biological aspects of reproduction and the gross and microscopic anatomy of the reproductive organs of the fish.

The morphometric measurements included the total length (T.L), standard length (St.L), head length (H.L), body. depth (B.D), predorsal distance (Pr. D), prepectoral distance (Pr. Pc), prepelvic distance (Pr.Pv), preanal distance (Pr.Anl) and interorbital width (I.O). These measurements were recorded for length groups between (12-12.9 em) and (25-25.9 em); the highest values were recorded for the latter group. The linear regression equation was used to compare between the observed and calculated values. The ratio indices between these measurements and total fish length were calculated............
