Clinicopathological Studies on Salmonellosis in Chicken

Abstract


The salmonellosis considered one of the most common and serious diseases that hindered the development of the poultry industries so the aim of the study to clarify the effect of salmonella on both the clinical pathological parameters in relation to the vital organs such as liver, kidney and intestine of newly hatching chicken and the growth rate of the affected chicken in the future. Also this study evaluates the efficiency and safety of some drugs on salmonella micro organism from clinicopathological view.
Two hundred and forty one day old chicken were divided into six groups, the

first one was infected with salmonella, second one was infected with salmonella and treated with ciprofloxacine, third one the same infection abut treated with colistine, the fourth just treated with coistine, while the fifth just treated with ciprofloxacine and the last one considered the control negative group.
Random five samples were collected from each group. Whole blood samples

for hematological studies such as ( RBCs, Hb, PCV, MCV,MCH, MCHC, TLC) thrombocyte. Serum sample for biochemical studies, such as ALT, AST, ALP, Total protein, Albumin, Globulin, Glucose, Cholesterol, uric acid, creatinine, Tissue specimens from liver, kidney, lung, spleen, intestine, for histopathological examination were collected and fixed in 10% formalin.
Our results revealed that macrocytic hypochromic anemia had been observed from 96 hours post salmonella infection until 3rd week while leukocytosis and thromobocytopenia were recorded at 48 hours till the end of the 2nd weeks..
Infected - ciprofloxacine treated group showed macrocytic hypochromic anemia at 1s 1 and 2nd week only while leukocytosis was recorded at 48 hours and 96 hours moreover, thrombocytopenia was observed at 1st week only.
