Abstract


Recurrent spontaneous abortion has been defined as three or more consecutive spontaneous abortions. <21

Incidence of spontaneous abortion for a woman with no history of reproductive westage is about 15 % and occurrence of two consecutive spontaneous abortions is about 35% and for three consecutive spontaneous abortions it increases to 47% (I)

Antioxidants are compounds that inhibit lipid peroxidation by interfering with the chain reaction of peroxidation and/or by scavenging reactive oxygen radicals. < 561

The significant rise of antioxidant activity during normal pregnancy is documented in the literature so far. <115&116 1

The present study was aimed ,with primary objective, at to study the level of some antioxidant namely Plasma Beta - Carotene,Plasma Malonyl dialdehyde (MDA), Erythrocyte Glutathione peroxidase, Erythrocyte superoxide dismutase and Plasma Vitamin E in normal pregnancy and patients with recurrent spontaneous abortion trying to evaluate the role of antioxidants in spontaneous recurrent abortion .
The total number of cases in this study was 40 cases classified into 4 groups:-
• Group (A):- I0 non pregnant cases, age (20-35) with previous 3 consecutive abortions or more.
• Group (B):- 10 pregnant cases (Gestational age 8-12 weeks), age

(20-35) with previous 3 consecutive abortions.
