Abstract

Argon laser (514nm) has been successfully applied for years to treat diabetic macular edema. Recently, diode laser (81Onm) has also been successfully used to treat the same condition.

Although photocoagulation has proved to be an effective strategy for eyes with macular edema, yet post laser scotomas appear. Also, macular sensitivity depression exist before and after laser treatment.

In this study, the photofield charts; which are the projection of the inverted field onto the fundus picture or vice versa, and macular sensitivity values were used to judge the efficacy of both types of laser in treatment of diabetic maculopathy 1n non-proliferative diabetic
retinopathy patients.

The study was carried out on sixty eyes with macular edema and non-proliferaive diabetic maculopathy. Pre and postlaser assesssment included, recording best
corrected visual acuity, fundus biomicroscopy, central
