Abstract

Liver is a maJor and important organ m thyroid hormone metabolism.

Some cases of thyroid disorder produce many different manifestations of variable intensity affecting liver functions.

Some drugs used in Treatment of thyroid dysfunction specially

(Tyrotoxicosis) affect liver function.

Patients with (HCV) infection may show immunologic

manifestations, including diseases:•

auto antibodies and concurrent immune

This immunologic findings may. resemble those of autoimmune

• hepatitis and they are not disease specific.

The present study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of thyroid antibodies (anti thyro peroxidase and anti thyroglobulin) and thyroid dysfunction in (40) patients with chronic active hepatitis C virus infection compared to (1 0) normal controls.

(6) patients (15%) showed manifestations of tlliVer cell failure and

(23) patients (57.5%) had disturbed liver function tests.

Total prevalence of thyroid auto-antibodies was (12.5%) [ (7.5%) antimicrosomal antibodies and (5%) anti thyroglobulin antibodies] with no sex difference.
