EVALUATION OF SOME OLIVE CULTIVARS GROWN AT EL-MACHARA REGION INSINAI

Abstract
This study was carried out in the farm of El-Maghara Experimental Station, North-Sinai Governorate on nine olive cultivars, namely Ascolana, Arebequina, Chemlali, Coratino, Corregiolo, Frantoio, Manzanillo, Mission and Picual. The trees were about 10-years-old grown in sandy soil at 5 meter apart under drip irrigation system from wells. Morphological characters of trees, flowering, fruit setting, yield and fruit characters, Evaluation of such cultivars was based on yield, alternate bearing and the most important fruit characters. From the previous results, it is recommended to planted Chemlali, Picual and Corregiolo olive cultivars in the new reclaimed areas at El Maghara. In addition, Chemlali, Coratino and Arebequina cultivars are considered •the favorable for oil production, Ascolano and Manzanillo are suitable for pickling and Corregiola, picual, Mission and Frantoio are could be used for oil production and pickling.
