EFFECT OF DIODE LASER AND SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE ON ROOT CANAL BACTERIA

Latifa Mohamed Abd El-Gawad;

Abstract

The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of C.W diode laser with output power 6 W for I min and sodium hypochlorite on St. mitis, S.aureus and Po.endodontalis.lbe literature was reviewed on laser physics, laser tissue interaction, bacteria subjected to the study ,antibacterial effect of sodium hypochlorite and effect of laser on microorganisms. Six strains of each organism were tested .For each organism 24 roots were used for inoculation and divided into four groups according to the type of treatment. These groups were control group, sodium hypochlorite group, laser alone group and laser with water irrigation group. The temperature of the roots was measured in laser alone group after laser irradiation and in laser with distilled water group after laser irradiation and water irrigation.

"!be results of this study have been discussed compared to that done by others and the reached results were summarized in the following:
• The use of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite for I min achieved 100% eradication of all strains tested (St. mitis. S aureus and Po.endodontalis).
• The use of C. W, 6W diode laser for I nun achieved 94.4% eradication of St. mitis, 95.3% for S. aureus and 97.9% for Po. endodontalis.
• The usc of C.W. 6W diode laser for I min with water irrigation was more effective in bacterial eradication as it was for St. mitis 99.3%,
for S. aureus 99.9% and for Po. endodontalis.99.3%
