Floral Morphology of Selected Species of Brassicaceae
Mariam Ibrahim Hussein;
Abstract
The diversity of the floral characters in 25 taxa of Brassicaceaewas studied through tracing their states as pictured by the organ vascularization.According to the dicta of evolution (floral criteria), the character states were given evolutionary grades and later were clipped to their corresponding taxa.
The floral vascularization of sepals, petals, stamens and carpels was considered reliable at the specific level.
Trends of evolution in the floral characters were found to be inreduction and the presence of different vascular complexes between different organs.
The present study clarifies the nature of the false septum and its vascular supply, if present, also its role with consideration in the number of carpels according to the bi- and tetra-carpellary theory. In addition to the different attributes of the nectaries and their vascularization.
