An Investigation Into the Performance of Dust Trap Louvers Used in Air Filtration Systems

Mohamed Badr Mohamed Badr;

Abstract

The problem of the removal of dust and contaminants from air streams has become of increasing importance. Therefore the air filtration equipment have been widely used in many applications in Egypt.

The main objective of the present work is to investigate the performance of sand traps, of different geometrical shapes under different operating conditions.

The experimental study was intended to investigate the effect of baffle profile, size, distance between the two consequtive baffles of sand trap, dust concentration, . and air face velocity on both sand trap resistance to air flow and its efficiency for dust separation

The experimental results showed that both the sand trap resistance and efficiency increase with a decrease in both sand trap size and distance between the two consequtive baffles. Also sand trap resistance increases as air face velocity increases, and its separation efficiency increases as the dust concentration increases. Both sand trap resistance and efficiency depend upon the baffle profile.

Key words: Air Filtration-Sand Trap-Dust Collector.
