Extraction of some heavy metals as affected by soil properties

Abstract


The current study was undertaken to investigate, The influence of some soil properties on extraction of some heavy metals. The relationship between the uptake of some heavy metals using barley and fenugreek plants as test crops and soil heavy metals extracted by various methods extraction was also studied to find out the best method for heavy met­ als extraction that give a positive correlation with plant uptake.



For the present study nine surface soil samples (0-30 em) were collected from different locations of Egypt as follows : 1- alluvial soil from the experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agricultural, Shebin El­ Kom, Menoufiya University ; 2- sandy soil from Wady El-Natrun, El­ Beheira Governorate; 3- cultivated sandy soil (cultivated for twenty five years) from Quessina, Menoufiya Governorate ; 4- calcareous soil from
El-Nobariya, El-beheira Governorate; 5 -alkali soil from the Farm of the Agricultural Research Station at Sakha, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate ; 6- saline soil from El-Hamoul region, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate ; 7- saline
-alkali soil from Edko region, El-Beheira Governorate ; 8 -Nile suspend­
ed matter from Bahr Shebin El-Kom banks, Menoufiya Governorate and
9-sandy soil irrigated with sewage effluent water for more than twenty years from El-Gabal El-Asfar, El-Kalyoubiya Governorate. Collected soil samples were air dried, ground, sieved through 2.0 mm. sieve and stored for analysis.
