THE USE OF SUB-MARGINAL PERIOSTEAL PEDICLE GRAFT AS A VASCULARIZED AUTOGENOUS FILLING MATERIAL FOR TREATING INTRABONY DEFECTS: (DOUBLE BLIND CLINICAL STUDY)
Mohamed Hany Fakhry (B.D.S);
Abstract
Periodontal diseases are multifactorial infections caused by different bacterial species that colonize the sulcular regions between the gingival margin and the tooth surface and through specific interactions with host tissues and cells causing the release of a broad array of inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and mediators, some of which lead to destruction of the tooth - supporting structures including the alveolar bone, and periodontal ligament1, 2.
A survey was prepared by the research, science and therapy committee of the american academy of periodontology have shown that the majority of adults suffer from moderate periodontitis, and high percent of the population is affected by severe generalized periodontitis at some stage of their lives3, 4.
Periodontitis will continue to progress if no intervention is undertaken and will ultimately result in early tooth loss5. Sites with intraosseous lesions have been shown to be at higher risk of disease progression such defects represent a major challenge for the clinician6.
