Abstract

There had been limited epidemiological studies of stroke in Egypt, previous studies included the governorates of Assuit, Sohag and the city of Al Quseir. All these were performed in relatively small populated governorates in upper Egypt (Khedr et al., 2013; Kandil et al., 2003; Tallawy et al., 2013).
To our knowledge there is limited epidemiological studies about stroke in the major markedly populated governorates in Egypt, which makes it difficult to delineate the magnitude of stroke burden in Egypt.
The aim of this work is to perform a hospital based Egyptian stroke registry in Nasr City Health Insurance Hospital and to know most important epidemiological data among Egyptian patients.
The present study is prospective descriptive cohort study. This study included 100 patients which represent all stroke patients admitted to Nasr City Health Insurance Hospital.
Patients were submitted to:
 Through medical and clinical neurological assessment.
 Level of impairment using the National Institute of Health (NIH) stroke scale and the Modified Rankin Scale (mRS).
