ESMAT AWADIN EL ALFY;
Abstract
This work aimed to survey the soil mite families inhabiting different soil types cultivated with mango trees and cucumber plants at different depths at Ismailia Governorate, during the season 1996 - 1997. The following results have been obtained:-
1- Survey covered five districts oflsmailia governorates namely Ismailia, Kantara Shark, Kantara Gharb, Fayed and El-Tal Elkabir. Twenty two families were found inhabiting soil under mango trees and seventeen families inhabiting soil under cucumber plants. These families belong to four sub-orders (Gamasida, Actinedida, Acaridida and oribatida).
2- El-Kantra Gharb contained the highest number of mite families, while Fayd contained the lowest number. The highest number of soil mites was recorded in Febuary and the lowest population was in October under mango trees.
3- The highest number of mite families was recorded in Ismailia distrect while El-Tal El-Kaber had the lowest number. Ind December & January the highly population of soil mites were recorded but in August the lowest number was recorded under cucumber plants.
4- Clay soil contained the highest number of mite families and mite population followed by sandy loam followed by sandy soil.
5- As organic matter increased the number of mites increased.
