Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate the correlation between different salivary composition and dental caries in Down and Turner syndrome children. A total of 50 Egyptian children included in this study (twenty children with
Turner syndrome, twenty children with Down syndrome and ten healthy children
as a control group) their ages ranging from 8 to 14 years.
Turner syndrome children were selected from the Clinical Genetic Department, Genome Research and Human Genetic Division, National Research Center, Giza, Egypt. The Down syndrome children were collected from a Dokki school of children with special needs, Giza, Egypt. While the healthy children were selected from the relatives of the test group patients.
Children were examined clinically by the same examiner for dental caries, which was recorded by DMF and def indices using sterile mirror and probe for each child. Unstimulated saliva sample (5 ml) was collected from all the patients in the morning two hours after breakfast. The samples were used for the analysis of pH, viscosity, IgA, electrolytes and streptococcus mutans count.
Data collected from different tests were subjected to statistical analysis.
The results of this study revealed the (ollowing:-
1-The examination of patients with Down and Turner syndrome revealed that caries incidence was lower than that of the control group.
