MICROBIOLOGICAL AND ECHOCARDIOGRAPHIC STUDY IN CHILDREN WITH IMPAIRED MYOCARDIAL CONTRACTILITY
OSAMA MAHMOUD EL-ASHEER;
Abstract
The study included 50 patients diagnosed as having congestive cardiomyopathy by echocardiography in addition to 30 age and sex matched subjects as controls. Their ages ranged from 5 months to 4 years. A plan was followed in every case and control including:
1- Thorough history taking and clinical examination.
2- Investigations included chest x-ray, ECG, detailed echocardiography and laboratory investigations in the form of complete blood picture, acute phase reactants (Erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein), indicators of myocardial cell injury (creatinine phosphokinase and lactic
. dehydrogenase) and immunological studies for the detection of enteroviruses and adenovirus IgM and IgG antibodies by ELISA .
