AUGMENTED INTEGRATED ROUTING ALGORITHM FOR GUARANTEED BANDWIDTH CONNECTIONS IN IP/MPLS OVER WDM NETWORKS
Ahmed Mohamed Hamdy Mostafa Elokda;
Abstract
Routing in IP/MPLS over WDM networks has been typically separated into routing at IP layer taking only IP layer information into account, and wave length routing at the optical layer taking only optical network information into account.
In this thesis, we propose the Augmented Integrated Routing Algorithm '
. I
(AIRA) which exploits information from both IP and optical layers adopting an •
augmented architecture model. This integration in the routing process enhances 1 the network resource utilization on both layers which guarantees better network :' performance and more robustness against traffic changes in the IP layer. The I algorithm provides a low cost solution since it reduces the usage of optical ports.;
It also enhances the quality of service for high priority nodes by
'
dedicating;
network resources for them. AIRA has a very reasonable processing timei compared to other algorithms.
I
AIRA is simulated and compared with other existing algorithms for
I
different traffic parameters and different network topologies. The
'
numerical
results show that it outperforms other algorithms in terms of better blocking probability, better QoS for high priority nodes, shorter optical path length in both
'
the logical and optical layers which in turns results in better optical ports' usage,
and less CPU processing time. I
