CHEMICAL INVESTIGATION OF

FAHEM ABDEL RAHEEM SAYED AHMED;

Abstract

The present work deals with the study of Acacia ehernbergiana species (Family Leguminosae). Scanty information is available about the constituents of the studied species. The chloroform extract produced 100 % inhibition of aggregation, induced by adenosine diphosphate and 12- deoxyphorbol phenyl acetate. The thesis includes the following:

1. Complete review of the litereture on Acacia species, comprising carohydrates, lipids, (diterpenoids, triterpenoids and sterols), saponins, phenolic compounds (including flav.onoids}, alkaloids and nitrogenous compounds.

2. Phytochemical screening of Acacia ehernbergiana revealed the presence of the tannins, flavonoids, saponins, anthraquinones and unsaturated sterols and/or terpenes.

3. Investigation of lipid consitituents revealed the following:

t. Fatty alcohols: cosanol, tricosanol, tetracosanol, pentacosanol, hexacosanol, octacosanol, triacontanol and dotriacontanol.
n. Hydrocarbons: hexadeecane, octadecane, eicosane, docosane, tricosane, tetracosane, pentacosane and hexacosane.
iii. Sterols: cholesterol, campesterol, stigmasterol and a.-spinasterol.

IV. Fatty acids: myristic, pentadecanoic, palmitic, margaric, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids.
