Abstract

The present thesis deals with the spectral, thermal, voltammetric and photochemical studies of certain cephalosporin antibiotics and their newly prepared Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) solid complexes.. The cephalosporin antibiotics used were: cephalexin (CEX), cephapirin (CEP), cefamandole (CML), cefuroxime (CRX), cefotaxime (CTX) and ceftazidime (CFZ).

The chapters in this thesis can be described as follows:

1- The first chapter includes a literature survey on the chemistry of the cephalosporin antibiotics and the investigations . reported on complexes of -lactam antibiotics. In this chapter some thermal and photochemical studies of drugs in general are given. It includes also a summary or' techniques used m voltammetry together with a literature collection on voltammetry of the above antibiotics.

2- The second chapter is dealing with the experimental. details of preparing the complexes of antibiotics along with the physical measurements and instrumentation used.
