Abstract

Dacryocystorhinostom;: (DCR) is the operation of choice to relief epiphora due to nasolacrimal duct obstruction. DCR can be approached by one of three methods; the endonasal approach, the external technique
and the transcanalicular approach.

In this study 45 cases were enrolled, 15 case operated with the external technique, 15 cases with the endoscopic endonasal technique and the effect of mitomycin has been studied in another 15 cases of the
external DCR group.

The results of this study came to be in harmony with most of the previous studies. The results of the endonasal endoscopic DCR was
66.7% success rate about 7% lower than the external DCR (73.3%

success rate) but this difference was statistically non-significant.

The application of mitomycin C in this study has improvethe results: The total number of cases operated upon with application of mitomycin were 15 out of 45 cases. The success rat of the mitomycin
subgroup was 86.7%.

Regarding the DCR complications in both the external and

• the endonasal endoscopic techniques:

Intra-operative complications:
Bleeding happened in all cases but was controllable in both the external and the endoscopic technique.
