Abstract
Spontaneous abortion is the most common complication of pregnancy that is responsible for significant emotional distress to couples desiring children. It is though that chromosomal, hormonal, immunological abnormalities, uterine mal formations •and infection may be implicated in the etiology of spontaneous abortion.
The over all incidence of spontaneous abortion is 10-15 % in early pregnancy. Chromosomal abnormalities are found in 50-60 % of abortions, as reported by several investigators. Although there are many reports on the etiology of abortion, on the most of cases the etiology is remain unclear.
The atm of this work is to study the relation between three dimensional ultrasonographic findings of the gestational sac shape , volume , diameter, crown rump length and fetal appearance with Doppler study for uterine artery flow and to correlate these findings with biochemical analysis represented by serum 13-hCG, total and free testosterone . Also, we aimed to develop a method for prognosis and prediction of pregnancy out come in cases with threatened• abortion.
The study was carried out on sixty women of comparable age and gestational age. They were categorized into two groups. The control group comprising 20 normal pregnant women while the study group comprising 40 pregnant females complaining of vaginal bleeding with active fetal heartbeat confirmed by ultrasound. The cases were followed up to the 20th week.
