Effect of intrathecal morphine on C-reactive protein and Interleukin-6 in elderly patients with myocardial ischaemia undergoing orthopedic surgery.

Abstract

This study was done in Assiut University Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Anesthesia Department, all patients gave informed consent and the study protocol was approved by the hospital ethical committee The aim of the study is to investigate the inflammatory stress

response measured by CRP and IL-6 to surgery in elderly patients with myocardial ischemia undergoing surgery around the hip joint and to compare the effects of either intrathecal morphine or intramuscular '• . diclofenac ils two pifferent mo'des ofanalgesia on this response.

Twenty four patients.scheduled in this work 14 males and lO females divided into two groups, their age was above 63 years old, all of them had preoperative ischemic changes approved by 12 leads ECG as one of the inclusion criteria, however exclusion criteria included: contraindication to regional anesthesia, valvular lesion or under digoxin treatment.
