Abstract

The film cooling characteristics of a hot plate exposed to a main flow with variable pressure gradient and having a coolant at variable injection velocities and angles have been investigated in the present study.

The used test rig has a facility to produce accelerating flow upon the hot plate and a coolant is injected from a single row of inclined holes at a constant pitch of 5mm. The injection angles are 20° and 40° and the injection hole diameter is 3mm. The blowing ratios are varied from zero to 2.65, the hot plate maximum temperature is 370K and the coolant temperature is
294K.

The present results have shown that, the film cooling effectiveness and the heat transfer coefficients are affected by the blowing ratios, the pressure gradient and the coolant injection angles.
