Major Changes in Urine Investigations after Orthotopic Cystectomy with Ileal Neobladder
Saad Khalid Abdulkareem Almulay;
Abstract
rthotopic reservoir is frequently indicated and utilized in urologic practice. Use of ileum incorporation into the urinary tract is extensively studied but the urine characteristics in these urinary reservoirs were not identified yet.
Urinary composition and contents were expected to show some changes when stored in intestinal reservoir.
This study was designed to outline and identify the characteristics and changes that occur in urine excreted from the kidneys and stored in the intestinal reservoir, as many treating physicians still consider the urine analysis and urinary findings as similar as the normal -well known- urine analysis from the native bladders.
The study included 100 patients underwent orthotopic neobladder and followed up of more than 6 months with good uncomplicated functional and oncological outcome, urine samples were obtained and extensively analyzed including physical, chemical and microscopic examination.
The results showed that; the urine analysis in clinically normal diverted patients showed higher urine pH than in the control group but it still acidic. Pyuria, proteinuria, hematuria and positive culture were significantly higher in diverted patients. The urine excreted through the ileal segment when compared with control samples show no significant changes in
