On Interactive Approaches for Solving Fuzzy Multicriteria Decision Making Problems

Ziaid Ali Kanaya;

Abstract

There has been a growing interest and actlVlty m the area of Multicriteria decision making, especially in the last 20 years. This area is prevalent in wide variety of disciplines such as control engineering, decision theory, management science and operations research.

Multicriteria decision making is focused on the theoretical foundations of multiobjective mathematical programming problems and on procedures and algorithms for solving these problems.

In practice, when formulating the multiobjective mathematical programming problem that closely describes and represents the real decision situation, the decision maker may describe the objective functions and the constraints in this problem with some vagueness. This vagueness can be efficiently interpreted through fuzzy set concepts.

The approaches for treating multicriteria decision making problems are classified into three categories
I. An approach does not use any knowledge of the decision maker's preferences..
2. An approach that specifies completely the decision maker's

preference structure.

3. An approach that uses partial progressively•revealed information regarding the decision maker's preferences. This approach is known as an interactive approach.

The thesis deals ith interactive ' approaches for solving multicriteria decision•making problems in fuzzy environment.
