Abstract


This work aimed to evaluate hydatid disease diagnosis by the serodiagnostic techniques : IRA, CIEP, and ELISA, and to attempt to detect circulating immune complex or circulating free antigen in hydatidosis patients. Also study the possibilities of cross reaction with schistosomiasis, fascioliasis, and carcinoma patients and the role ofP1 blood group in false positive reactions.



Subjects included in this study were 145 patients. Of these 45 were referred to the Parasitology Diagnostic Research Unit at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University for the diagnosis of hydatidosis, 50 patients similarly referred for diagnosis of schistosomiasis and fascioliasis, 50 patients with liver or lung malignancies from the Ain Shams University Hospitals, and 15 normal control individuals.
They were classified as follows :



Group I : Consisted of 45 hydatidosis patients, composed of 30 hepatic cases, 13 of them with hydatid cysts in the right lobe of the liver and 3 in the left lobe, 5 patients with combin.ed right and left lobes infection, 6 patients had hepatic and splenic cysts, one patient had combined hepatic and kidney infection and 2 patients had combined hepatic, splenic, and kidney cysts. There were 13 pulmonary cases, 8 of them had hydatid cyst in right lobe, 2 cases had infection in the left lobe and 3 patients had combined right and left lobe infection. There was one patient having cardiovascular hydatid cyst, and one patient had vertebral column cysts.
