Six case studies of NZESBs were performed, different in geography, building type and different climates. The first goal is to document the design of each building and its notable features, and identify how design tools were used during design stages. The analysis will identify gaps of existing tools and allow the tool developers to improve them.
The second goal is to create a calibrated energy model of the each building with one or more design tools, and compare the results with its monitored performance and weather data to ensure accuracy.
This paper reviews tools for designing NZESBs, modeling issues and presents the procedure used in several redesign and optimization case studies of existing projects .The case studies will identify gaps in existing tools and help develop them.
Screening of existing architect-friendly tools through literature review; each tool was studied by simulating a simple construction model.
This allowed an in-depth analysis of tool capabilities and of the tools usability.
literature review , survey, qualitative and quantitative benchmark protocols and modeling
Gaps in NZESB design tools have been identified through a survey, a qualitative benchmark and the beginning of several case studies and design process analysis. Work will continue on the case studies, which will lead to solutions that will assist in NZESB design.
Check the accuracy of many simulation tools, in order to specify a suitable tool for my research
This paper identified criteria to select the suitable tool
