Abstract
Viral hepatitis is a cause of considerable morbidity and mortality, both from acute and the chronic sequelae.
During the last 20 years there has been a dramatic improvement in understanding of viral hepatitis, the consequences of which will affect hundreds of millions of people throughout the world.
Viral hepatitis resulting from blood transfusion ts caused by established hepatitis viruses B, C, D and G.
In 1997, N ishizawa et a!., found a novel agent who was designated TT-Virus (TTY) after the initials of the first patient in whom it was discovered.
A high prevalence of active TTY infection was found in patients with liver disease, as well as healthy adults, children and infants
TTY is probably mainly transmitted parentally. It was detected also in saliva, stool, bile and semen. So, It is does not exclude existence of other routes of transmission.
A high prevalence of TTY infection in children of mothers were TTY positive by PCR. Although none of these children with TTY viremia showed clinical or biochemical sings of liver disease, It can not be excluded that the appearance of clinical signs of hepatitis due to TTY infection may be delayed for several years.
