Abstract

This paper investigates the relation between globalization and cultural disjunction in Salman Rushdie’s Shalimar the Clown (2005). The paper aims also at tracing Rushdie’s subtle novelistic devices used to highlight cultural disjunction in the age of globalization. To achieve these objectives, a brief definition of the concept of globalization will first be considered, the relation between globalization and culture will be explored, and then the link between globalization and Americanization will be highlighted. This will be followed by a detailed analysis of the novel under study in relation to 'globalization', and 'cultural disjunction'.
